Alchemy Saunas Karrinyup is a contemporary sauna and bathing retreat located within a major shopping centre wellness precinct. A palette of warm tones, diffused light and layered translucency provides a calming, immersive sanctuary that gently transitions guests from retail intensity into a restorative environment of heat, ice and rest.

A bronzed glass threshold marks the project entry and leads to a long corridor washed in sunset tones allowing guests to decompress before reaching the change areas. A curved ceiling feature and integrated benching encourage moments of pause, while a circular ring of light creates a sense of enclosure and ritual.

The project’s innovation lies in its approach to transition within a shopping centre context. Rather than relying on enclosure alone, the design uses graduated light levels, tinted materials and translucency to create psychological separation from the retail environment. Perforated metal screens and textured glazing allow glimpses of movement without visual exposure, redefining privacy in a public setting.

A layered, sensory approach demonstrates how thoughtful design can redefine wellness experiences within dense, commercial environments.
