Cantina di Lulu La Delizia — Hospitality
Subiaco | 80 sqm
The design for Cantina di Lu La Delizia draws from the established identity of the existing restaurant while fostering its own relaxed, intimate character. Influenced by memories of a migrant home and the warmth of Nonna’s cellar kitchen – where family and friends gathered around simple, generous hospitality – the space has been conceived as an evocative homage to Italian migrant architecture.
A palette of honest, familiar materials anchors the concept. Rendered walls and ceilings (including hand-trowelled finishes reminiscent of traditional plaster techniques), warm timbers, travertine, textured coloured glass inspired by vintage Italian furniture and subtle brass accents align with the existing restaurant aesthetic. Ethnic lace curtains extend from the main dining space, reinforcing the sense of nostalgia.
The bar is the central focus – set against a modest, almost utilitarian backdrop inspired by Nonna’s concrete basement kitchen – creating a genuine, unpretentious atmosphere. Together, the materiality and detailing form a grounded, contemporary interpretation of migrant identity and the enduring rituals of shared meals and family-centred hospitality.
